Why should we stick our necks out to trust others? The simple answer is this: Trust hist he foundation of all important relationships. We already know this, and God expects us to have trust as the foundation of our relationship with Him.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart... (Proverbs 3:5)
But, we've been hurt. We want to trust him/her, but we can't. We're afraid. It is difficult for us to put our necks out again. What do we do?
Here are a few practical exercises you can do to trust again:
Look in the mirror and say, "I have a difficult time trusting __." Place emphasis on the word, "I".
Tell the person, "I really want to trust you." Have a discussion with the person about what you need from them to gain your trust.
Whoever wronged you in the past, begin the forgiveness process. For some, the reason we cannot move past our scars is because we are still holding on to them. A great way to forgive others is to start praying blessings upon that person. "God, would you bring blessings upon that person?" Then, when God grants that prayer request, celebrate.
